Auburn University (AU) is ranked in the top fifty public universities (U.S. News & World Report) and the Department of Kinesiology doctoral program is ranked in the top twenty-five (AAKPE Ranking of Doctoral Programs, 2005). Our departmental mission is to promote the creation and application of knowledge about health, physical activity, and performance, create and implement an invigorating learning environment for undergraduate and graduate students, and improve the health and wellness of society through research, outreach, and teaching. Academic programs at AU enroll approximately 21,000 undergraduate students and 3,400 graduate students. The Department of Kinesiology will be moving into a new “state of the art” building as sole occupant in Spring 2013. AU also has a new MRI Research Center that contains a Siemens Verio open-bore 3T scanner for clinical and research use, and one of the first actively-shielded whole-body 7T MRI scanners in the US for research use. Kinesiology’s new Health and Performance Optimization Center, housed in the new MRI facility, will have its grand opening Fall 2012. AU is centrally located in the southeastern United States in Auburn, AL, a city with a population of about 56,000.
