About Us
Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana, Inc. (CFNI)
CFNI is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides leadership and resources for the enhancement of health and the quality of life in Northwest Indiana. Projects Community Foundation has pursued throughout its history have served to strengthen the communities it serves.

At the heart of CFNI's charitable endeavors is operation of Community Healthcare System, comprising three not-for-profit hospitals: Community Hospital in Munster; St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago; and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Other community projects include the development of The Center for Visual and Performing Arts; creation of a not-for-profit foundation for cancer research, operation of the Cancer Resource Centre offering free support services to cancer patients and their families; donation of land and more than $3.5 million to create the Community Veterans Memorial; and Hartsfield Village, a senior living continuing care retirement community. The Foundation also owns a for-profit company, Community Resources, Inc., which provides catering services for The Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Munster and is developing Community Estates, a residential development in south Munster.

Throughout its history, CFNI has supported a number of charitable ventures in Northwest Indiana, including participation in a number of capital campaigns for other local not-for-profit groups; support and scholarships to area colleges and universities; funding for roads and public infrastructure; and donation of land and office space for the not-for-profit Hospice of the Calumet Area.

HEALTHCARE
Munster Medical Research Foundation, Inc., d/b/a/ Community Hospital - This 501(c)(3) not-for-profit company oversees the operation of an 427-bed acute care hospital in Munster, Indiana, offering a broad range of healthcare services. It is part of the Community Healthcare System, Northwest Indiana's largest integrated healthcare system.

St. Catherine Hospital, Inc. - This 501(c)(3) not-for-profit company oversees the operation of a 190-bed acute care hospital in East Chicago, Indiana, offering a broad range of healthcare services. It is part of the Community Healthcare System, Northwest Indiana's largest integrated healthcare system.

St. Mary Medical Center, Inc. - This 501(c)(3) not-for-profit company oversees the operation of a 195-bed acute care hospital in Hobart, Indiana, offering a broad range of healthcare services. It is part of the Community Healthcare System, Northwest Indiana's largest integrated healthcare system.

Community Cancer Research Foundation- This 501(c)(3) not-for-profit company focuses on reducing the cancer morbidity and mortality throughout Northwest Indiana by supporting and advancing throughout the Community Healthcare System cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment, education and prevention, and by promoting the acquisition of knowledge through clinical research. The foundation operates the Cancer Resource Centre, a place where people affected by cancer can receive free support, complementary therapies and educational services.

The Community Village, Inc d/b/a Hartsfield Village - This not-for-profit 501(c)(3) company operates a continuing care retirement community in Munster, Indiana. Hartsfield Village provides independent living, assisted living, memory care residence, and skilled nursing care, as well as specialized Alzheimer's disease care.

ARTS
CVPA Holding Corporation - This not-for-profit 501(c)(2) company owns The Center for the Visual and Performing Arts in Munster. CVPA has an agreement with Community Resources Inc., (CRI) to manage the building's operation.

Theatre at the Center - This not-for-profit 501(c)(3) company directs Theatre at the Center, Northwest Indiana's only professional equity theater, presenting a performing arts series, a children's theater program (Theatre for Young Audiences) and serving as hosts for special programs that enhance cultural opportunities in Northwest Indiana.

HOSPITALITY & DEVELOPMENT
Community Resources Inc. (CRI) - This for-profit development company manages the day-to-day operations for The Center for the Visual and Performing Arts and is currently developing Community Estates, a residential neighborhood in south Munster. CRI previously developed medical office buildings near the campus of Community Hospital in Munster.
