Substitute Assistant Athletic Trainer

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Substitute Assistant Athletic Trainer supports Westminster’s interscholastic athletic programs by assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with the prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and management of athletic injuries and conditions. This role provides coverage during periods when additional or substitute training support is needed, ensuring that student-athletes receive consistent, high-quality care aligned with Westminster’s mission of developing the whole person—academically, physically, and spiritually.
The Substitute Assistant Athletic Trainer will collaborate with coaches, team physicians, and the Head Athletic Trainer to promote athletes' health and safety, provide on-field coverage for practices and competitions, and assist in implementing injury-prevention protocols. Responsibilities may include supervising student trainers, maintaining accurate injury and recovery records, monitoring environmental safety conditions, and supporting student-athletes' rehabilitation services.
This is an as-needed, substitute role that may include evenings, weekends, and travel with athletic teams, depending on program needs. Candidates must hold current NATA certification, CPR, and First Aid credentials, and demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and the school community.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Position Status: Salaried, Exempt, Part-time, As needed
Hours of Work: Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (or as determined by athletic schedules). Occasional evenings and weekends required for athletic practices, contests, tournaments, and special events. Hours may vary seasonally based on team practice and competition schedules.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements below outline the knowledge, skills, and abilities expected of a successful candidate.
Bachelor’s Degree; Master's Degree Preferred
Current NATA Certification
Must be CPR-certified and First Aid-certified
Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members
Strong writing, organizational, administrative, and communication skills
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the Head Athletic Trainer in the recognition, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries of students at The Westminster Schools
Assists in implementing appropriate policies and procedures according to the NCAA, NATA, and the State of Georgia
Provides on-field coverage of all Middle School and Upper School JV and Varsity sports
Assists in the rehabilitation of student-athletes' injuries
Works in cooperation with the team physician and the Head Athletic Trainer for the care of athletic-related injuries
Collects baseline data for Sway Software on appropriate high-risk sports
Supervises Student Athletic Trainers
Works in conjunction with the Strength and Conditioning coaches to implement injury prevention protocols.
Assists in ordering and inventory of athletic training room supplies
Assists in monitoring weather conditions and administers appropriate safety protocols for inclement weather
Undertakes special projects or assignments as designated by the Head Athletic Trainer
Maintains current First Aid, CPR, and AED training
Coordinates and maintains communication of concussion care with the “Concussion Team”
Perform other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid is required.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and frequently walks on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
Westminster is a drug-free, smoke/vape-free campus.
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the regular business day. Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required.
