ROLE OVERVIEW
University of Vermont Athletic Medicine is seeking a dynamic candidate for the position of Athletic Trainer. Our unit is a part of the Center for Health and Wellbeing and works alongside Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychiatry Services and Living Well to provide holistic care for our student-athlete population. This position will report to the head athletic trainers and will be part of an independent medical model. Sport assignment will be M/W Track and Field and Cross Country.
Athletic Medicine has a staff of 7 staff athletic trainers, two associate head athletic trainers. two head athletic trainers and the team physician, who also serves as the Director of Athletic Medicine. We provide care to approximately 450 student athletes. Each athletic trainer is assigned to one of our sports teams and is responsible for care including injury evaluation, diagnosis, management, and rehabilitation as well as working with other providers as needed to provide the highest quality medical care to our student-athletes.
Start date is flexible with an early July start preferred

This position is full-time, 11-months, and is benefits-eligible.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Care coordinator for one UVM Varsity Athletics Team, assignment TBD. Prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of chronic and acute conditions. Documentation of services
Travel with assigned team to away competitions as assigned
Medical oversight of competitions and practices including coordination of additional medical coverage as indicated
Administrative duties as assigned by supervisor. Attendance departmental and divisional meetings

Athletic Trainer Position Profile
In addition to hiring someone with the experience and skillset required by the position description, the following profile and context will supplement the search committee and stakeholders’ understanding of what we believe will aid in an employee’s success in the position.
- The position is part of the Center for Health and Wellbeing (CHWB). In addition to providing day to day medical care for student-athletes, this position will interface with other divisions of CHWB including counseling and psychiatry, nutrition services, student health services, and living well education and outreach. Will work as part of a collaborative team including team physician, orthopedics, chiropractic and other consultants as needed.
- Will frequently work nights and weekends, especially during assigned team competition season.
- Utilize software including Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams and Forms. Utilize Point and Click (PnC) for documentation. Utilize EPIC to access radiology and hospital records as needed.
- Experience in college athletics or equivalent preferred
- Master’s degree, or 3 years of experience working at the collegiate level or equivalent, required
- CPR/First AID required, Stop the Bleed preferred

- Salary is expected to be $60,000-$68,000 depending on experience

COMMUNICATION – Emphasizes clear and effective communication both written and verbal to coaches, providers, patients, and administrators.
DESIRE TO LEARN – Desire to expand skill set and utilize continuing education allowance to further knowledge and improve patient care and outcomes.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS – IASTM, Dry Needling, and PRI are all common skills among our staff.
EXPERIENCE WITH REHABILITATION – Able to follow rehab protocols and design patient appropriate programming. Works collaboratively with strength and conditioning and patient to meet goals and achieve optimal outcomes. Experience with long term rehabilitation
