Description
REPORTS TO: Principal/Athletic Director
RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE: Provide athletic training services for all home athletic practices and contests at Torrington High School and any away varsity football contests, if requested by Director of Athletics
- Maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments and provide insurance claim for sports injuries
- Communicate directly with coaches, parents, nurses and student/athletes regarding a student's injury
- Act as a liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes and parents
- Follow the return to play protocol with any student/athlete exhibiting signs of a concussion
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Athletics regarding any equipment needs for the athletic training room
- Maintain inventory of all medical kits and watercoolers that are used by teams during the season
- Maintain medical kits stocked with all necessary items; ensure watercoolers are cleaned appropriately before redistributing
- Attend other away contests during a team's post-season play, as requested by the Director of Athletics
- Develop coach’s professional development for CPR/AED, Concussion, Heat Illness, Sudden Cardiac Death
- Establish and maintain a budget for athletic training supplies/equipment
- Develop comprehensive venue and condition specific emergency action plans.
- Complete (school systems) policies training to include: Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan training and comply with the regulations therein.
- Assist the Director of Athletics as requested
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge about a large range of medical problems.
- Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be needed.
- Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
- Attention to Detail: should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
- Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision
QUALIFICATIONS: - Connecticut Department of Health Athletic Trainer License
- Previous experience as an Athletic Trainer in a school setting
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of, and to adhere to, all District requirements and Board of Education policies and the State of Connecticut Educator Standards.
