Athletic Trainer
The Athletic Trainer at Camden Military Academy is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic training services to cadets participating in interscholastic athletics and physical training activities. The Athletic Trainer works closely with coaches, staff, administration, and parents to promote the health, safety, and well-being of all cadets.
Reports To: Athletic Director and Headmaster
Qualifications
- Athletic Trainer certification and current licensure as required by the State of South Carolina.
- Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Experience working with adolescent male student-athletes.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, coaches, medical providers, and parents.
- Ability to supervise and mentor cadets in healthy athletic practices.
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Certification/Licenses
- National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (BOC) Certification.
- South Carolina Athletic Trainer License (or eligibility for licensure).
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Possess knowledge of injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques.
- Demonstrate strong assessment and decision-making skills to determine appropriate care and referrals.
- Maintain detailed medical records and documentation for cadet-athletes.
- Communicate effectively with coaches, faculty, medical providers, cadets, and parents regarding injuries and recovery plans.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with applicable medical and educational guidelines.
- Have the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple responsibilities in a boarding school environment.
- Function effectively in high-pressure situations, including athletic competitions, practices, and emergency situations.
- Be familiar with technology used for athletic training documentation and communication.
- Must have the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with limited supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement athletic training programs that support injury prevention and overall cadet.
- Establish and maintain a budget for athletic training supplies, equipment, and services identified in the Athletic Training Program Coverage Policy.
- Work closely with coaches and school administration to ensure the safety and readiness of cadet-athletes.
- Develop comprehensive rehabilitation and return-to-play plans for injured cadets.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation related to athletic injuries and treatments.
- Comply with all Camden Military Academy policies and procedures as well as applicable athletic training regulations.
- Supervise cadets and student assistants who support athletic training operations.
- Coordinate other care and referrals with physicians, orthopedic specialists, physical therapists, and healthcare providers.
- Establish working relationships with school nurses and health care professionals.
- Collaborate with coaches to ensure training methods and conditioning programs align with injury prevention goals.
- Attend practices, athletic competitions, and special school events requiring medical coverage.
- Provide further emergency medical care when necessary and coordinate transportation or referrals for treatment.
- Maintain inventory and proper care of athletic training equipment and supplies.
- Educate cadets, coaches, and parents on injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, recovery, and wellness.
- Promote a culture of health, fitness, accountability, and safety consistent with the mission and values of Camden Military Academy.
Physical Requirements
- Medium physical demand.
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and moving athletic equipment.
- Ability to respond quickly to medical emergencies on athletic fields, gymnasiums, and other training areas.
- May assist injured cadets with transfers and mobility when necessary.
- Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
