Description
Indiana Wesleyan University is seeking to hire an Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time, 10-month position starting on August 1st of each calendar year and ending on May 31st or the conclusion of team’s spring competitive season, whichever is later.
Primary responsibilities of the Athletic Trainer include providing athletic training services, as determined by the Head Athletic Trainer, and assisting with the day-to-day operation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of the athletic training program as it relates to athletic injury management and intercollegiate / club athletics medical coverage.
Indiana Wesleyan University is a NAIA institution that sponsors 24 intercollegiate athletic teams with approximately 620 student athletes. The Athletic Trainer will also serve as a Clinical Preceptor for the Athletic Training Program.
Additional income opportunities include summer intercollegiate coverage, summer camp coverage, and adjunct teaching (if desired).

Requirements
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities for the Athletic Trainer position include the following:
- Provide athletic training services for intercollegiate athletes / sports as determined by the Head Athletic Trainer.
- Provide athletic training coverage and emergency medical care for club athletes / sports as determined by the Head Athletic Trainer.
- Serve as a Clinical Preceptor for the Athletic Training program and assist the Clinical Education Coordinator in the supervision and clinical education of athletic training students.
- Maintain an accurate health care account of all intercollegiate athletes. Document all athletes that have been evaluated, treated, and rehabilitated in the athletic training facilities and ensure that the appropriate records are properly completed and/or uploaded onto the electronic medical records system.
- Properly, and in a timely manner, file any appropriate claims with the secondary insurance company.
- Assist with supervision of the daily operational procedures of the athletic training clinics and facilities.
- Assist in the review of annual pre-participation physicals and paperwork for all intercollegiate athletes.
- Assist in the scheduling and administration of routine team physician visits for injured intercollegiate athletes.
- Act as a liaison between intercollegiate head coaches and team physicians.
- Provide insight, rationale, and personal preferences concerning organization and the purchasing of medical supplies / equipment for the athletic training facilities.
- Assist with organization and maintenance of medical supplies / equipment inventory.
- Acting within scope of practice, counsel with students and refer as necessary regarding personal, emotional, academic, or spiritual hardships/problems.
- Participate as requested in committees, councils or professional organizations that pertain to this position. Attendance at university chapel services is encouraged.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
- Maintain certification/membership with the following:
- Board of Certification
- Indiana Professional Licensing Agency
- National Athletic Trainers’ Association
- Healthcare Provider CPR
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
The Athletic Trainer will serve as a Clinical Preceptor for the Athletic Training Program, which involves supervision and clinical education of athletic training students.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION / CREDENTIALS
Minimum requirements include:
- A professional degree in Athletic Training (i.e., Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree)
- Current BOC recognition as a Certified Athletic Trainer
- Indiana licensure is required
- The licensure process should be started, if not already secured, once the successful candidate has accepted the position.
- Healthcare provider level CPR certification
EXPERIENCE
Desired experience includes:
- One year of post-certification experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer is desirable
- College experience and experience with a variety of sports are desirable
- Previous experience in clinical supervision of athletic training students is desirable
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
