- Athletic Trainer
Description
Serves as Athletic Trainer for assigned intercollegiate teams with a primary assignment with the Division 1 Men’s Football program. The focus of this position is to provide high quality, evidence based, allied health care services to include emergency and acute injury/illness triage and care, comprehensive evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, injury prevention, physical performance testing and training, documentation and tracking of injuries/illnesses, and readiness reports for assigned teams. Supports physical performance, readiness, and rehabilitation elements of the United States Air Force Academy Athletic Department program with the goal of building resilience, enhancing human performance and optimizing team and unit mission effectiveness and operational readiness. Supports other duties as assigned to include cross coverage for the Department’s other 29 intercollegiate programs and support to Athletic Department sponsored institutional and external events as necessary. Reports directly to the Football Supervisory Athletic Trainer.
Duties
- Prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injured student-athletes.
- Coordinate physician appointments, referred care, and rehabilitation for assigned student-athletes.
- Provide written and verbal follow-ups to Head Football Athletic Trainer or Coaches regarding student-athlete medical care and participation status. Serves as Liaison between the team physicians and athlete.
- Ensure practice/game preparation and coverage for assigned athletic teams.
- Travel with assigned teams as needed.
- Review, understand, and maintain compliance with Sports Medicine Policies and Protocols.
- Assist with organizing and distributing supplies within the Sports Medicine Department.
- Assist in the maintenance, security, and accountability of Sports Medicine facilities and equipment.
- Documents healthcare related evaluation and treatment in the Department’s approved electronic health record systems and participates in peer and quality of care reviews in accordance with local and Department of the Air Force policies.
- Perform other assigned administrative duties
Expectations
Work closely and collaboratively with the Football Athletic Training team under direction of the Supervisory Athletic Trainer/Head Football Athletic Trainer.
Work closely with sports medicine, athletic development, and sports science staff to ensure a holistic approach to athlete care and recovery.
Uphold respected and trusting relationships among student-athletes, performance staff, and coaching staff.
Be knowledgeable of and comply with all applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
Maintains knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules, and procedures.
Maintains professional competency and skills required for professional practice, including state licensure, Board of Certification (BOC), CPR / AED for the professional rescuer, and credentialing with the installation Medical Facility.
Maintains professional behavior and conduct on and off duty consistent with the values and standards of the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Air Force.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in athletic training.
- Current Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC)
- CPR/AED certification
- Immediate eligibility for Licensure as Athletic Trainer (LATC) in state of Colorado
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer.
Preferred Qualifications
- Athletic Training experience of 5 years or more working in collegiate, Olympic national team, or professional athletics environments.
- At least 2 years of certified athletic trainer experience in Division 1 or NFL football.
- Demonstrated experience and success working within a multidisciplinary integrated performance model.
Requirements / Conditions of Employment
Must be a U.S. citizen
Must successfully complete a background investigation with favorable results
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle
