Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists is searching to fill a SY2026-2027 contract position as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for our Outreach program with a flexible start date. This position is to fulfill our community partnership role with Norfolk Public Schools. This position is a great opportunity to work with a supportive, dedicated team of ATs at Norfolk Public Schools as they oversee their Sports Medicine coverage for their athletic programs. The main coverage role of this position is to develop, grow, implement, and perpetuate a sports medicine program while providing middle school and supplemental high school sports medicine coverage as needed throughout a school sports season.
This position has various growth avenues for professional development in clinical exam, physician and clinical care team exposure, athletic administration and organization, community engagement, and CPR instructing. ADDITIONAL PAID Per diem opportunities are plentiful and normally range from $35/hr+. Currently AOS does not require additional per diem work as part of contract/employment for the outreach AT position.

Requirements
Requirements:
The ATC will provide on-site injury assessment, initiate basic treatment and communicate effectively with all involved personnel such as the athlete, parents, coaching staff and healthcare providers. Providing community outreach, strong organization skills and the ability to function independently are all requirements of this position. Additionally, all candidates should be NATABOC certified, Virginia Athletic Training License thru the Va. Board of Medicine and possess CPR/AED certification. A comprehensive benefits package including continuing education allotment is available.
Responsibilities:
Assess and evaluate athletes' physical conditions and injuries to develop appropriate treatment plans.
Implement rehabilitation programs and provide guidance on body mechanics and nutrition.
Educate athletes on injury prevention and health coaching strategies.
Maintain accurate records of treatments and progress, ensuring compliance with medical terminology standards.
Collaborate with coaches and medical staff to enhance athletes' performance and well-being.
Ensure all certifications, such as AED and CPR, are up to date and adhere to safety protocols.
