Sentara Healthcare is seeking applicants for THREE (3) Athletic Trainers to join our team at Portsmouth Public Schools (PPS). These positions will act as the sole athletic trainer at one middle school or high school with athletes from 6th-8th grades and 9th-12th grades. Offering position as 12-month employment with school coverage only. This arrangement qualifies for full medical benefits.  

Sport Coverages: 

• PPS High Schools offer 15 different sports across 3 seasons to include: Football, Cross 
• Country, Cheerleading, Field Hockey, Golf, and Boys’ & Girls' Volleyball in the fall; 
• Boys' and Girls' Basketball, Cheerleading, Indoor Track, Swimming, and Wrestling in the winter; and Baseball, Soccer, Tennis, Track, and Softball in the spring. 
• PPS Middle Schools offer 9 different sports across 3 seasons to include: Football and 
• Cheerleading in the fall; Boys' and Girls' Basketball, Boys’ and Girls’ Volleyball, 
• Cheerleading, and Wrestling in the winter; and Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer, Track, and 
• Softball in the spring. 
• Works under supervision of the Director of Athletics at respective Middle School/High 
• School and Sentara Supervisor. 
• Responsible for the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries under the direction of the Team Physician. 
• Middle school athletic trainers will assist the high school athletic trainers throughout the year  
• Serve as a liaison between coaches, student-athletes, physicians, and parents. 
• Charts and keeps electronic record of student athlete injuries, utilizing current record 
• keeping systems and protocols using EMR. 
• Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the athletic training room. 
• Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Director/Sentara Supervisor
