Job Objective:
Helps students manage and care for athletic injuries while teaching physical enhancement and injury prevention skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid state Athletic Trainer license/certificate.
- Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., negative tuberculosis test).
- Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and Board policies.
- Valid Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit.
- Knowledge of interscholastic athletic program regulations.
- Ability to work irregular hours and a non-traditional schedule.
Essential Functions:
- Provides technical expertise in evaluating and managing athletic injuries.
- Upholds Board policies and administrative procedures.
- Maintains professional communication with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Oversees maintenance of the training room and treatment areas.
- Inspects equipment and ensures safe operating conditions.
- Works with the Athletic Director to evaluate program needs and order supplies.
- Promotes proper use, care, and security of school property.
- Reviews procedures and schedules before each athletic season.
- Ensures required forms are completed and maintained (physicals, medical authorizations, emergency information, etc.).
- Educates students about medical disclosure and injury reporting procedures.
- Evaluates, treats, and monitors minor athletic injuries.
- Documents treatments provided and supplies used.
- Communicates with parents/guardians regarding injuries and treatment options.
- Consults physicians regarding injuries when necessary.
- Assists with treatment of serious injuries under physician direction.
- Reports injuries to head coaches and advises on athlete participation status.
- Maintains injury status reports for all athletes.
- Requires physician approval before return to play following medically supervised injuries.
- Maintains confidentiality of student medical information.
- Demonstrates professionalism and respect toward athletes, coaches, officials, and competitors.
- Supervises training, conditioning, and injury prevention activities.
- Instructs coaches and athletes in proper conditioning techniques.
- Provides sports nutrition guidance.
- Oversees orthopedic taping, bracing, and therapeutic exercise programs.
- Supervises student aides and helpers.
- Encourages academic success and positive student development.
- Promotes sportsmanship and adherence to the athletic code of conduct.
- Reports discipline issues, equipment concerns, vandalism, and safety hazards.
- Ensures locker rooms and practice areas remain clean and orderly.
- Identifies and minimizes safety risks.
- Reports suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law.
- Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends improvements.
- Works closely with the Athletic Boosters Association.
- Participates in staff meetings and professional development.
- Serves as a positive role model for students.
- Maintains professional appearance and appropriate attire.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
