Position Summary
RPS Academies is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Part-Time Athletic Trainer who will be responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play management of athletic injuries while supporting the overall health, recovery, and performance of student-athletes.
Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary performance team, the Athletic Trainer provides evidence-based care to athletes training 4–5 hours daily and plays an important role in keeping athletes healthy, performing at their highest level, and safely returning to sport following injury.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Athlete Care
- Provide athletic training services, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency medical care for student-athletes athletes participating in tennis, soccer, beach volleyball, and golf.
- Evaluate, assess, and manage acute and chronic athletic injuries using evidence-based clinical practice.
- Collaborate daily with certified strength and conditioning coaches to integrate rehabilitation, recovery, and return-to-performance programming.
- Provide first aid and emergency medical care during practices, competitions, tournaments, camps, and academy events.
- Apply preventative taping, bracing, wrapping, and other injury prevention techniques as appropriate.
Sports Medicine & Performance Support
- Collaborate with coaches and strength and conditioning staff to promote safe training practices and reduce injury risk.
- Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, recovery strategies, hydration, nutrition, and overall wellness.
- Recognize potential overuse injuries and communicate concerns to the appropriate members of the performance team.
- Support implementation of individualized rehabilitation and return-to-sport programs.
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate effectively with physicians, coaches, parents, and academy leadership regarding athlete health and participation status while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Coordinate referrals for outside medical care when necessary.
- Foster positive relationships with student-athletes while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical documentation in accordance with applicable laws, professional standards, and academy policies.
- Comply with Board of Certification (BOC) Standards of Professional Practice, Florida licensure requirements, OSHA regulations, HIPAA, and academy policies.
- Assist with maintaining athletic training supplies, rehabilitation equipment, and treatment areas to ensure a safe and organized environment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide athletic training coverage for assigned practices, competitions, tournaments, camps, showcases, and special events.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary sports medicine and performance team.
- Participate in continuing education to maintain professional certifications and stay current on best practices in athletic training and sports medicine.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of RPS Academies.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited program.
- Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification.
- Current Florida Athletic Training License, or the ability to obtain licensure prior to employment.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Strong clinical decision-making, injury evaluation, emergency response, and rehabilitation skills.
- Knowledge of evidence-based sports medicine practices and return-to-play protocols.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare and performance team.
- Commitment to maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and exceptional athlete care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing and implementing rehabilitation and return-to-sport programs.
- Experience working with high school, collegiate, professional, or elite athletes.
- Experience in a sports academy, boarding school, collegiate athletics, or high-performance training environment.
- Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and move throughout athletic facilities for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely assist injured athletes and respond effectively during emergency situations.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Schedule Expectations
This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule based on athletic programming and academy needs. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required to provide coverage for practices, competitions, camps, tournaments, and special events. Hours may vary throughout the year based on seasonal athletic schedules.
